Overview of GSRBM Curriculum - First SessionTOOLS FOR MANAGING PROFITABILITY & RISK Bank Financial Statements Review – a refresher in accounting principles and financial statements as they apply specifically to banks, reviewing the accounting and reporting of economic events, and how this process affects financial decisions. (1st year, 7 hours, Bob Kemp) Bank Financial Statement Management – examines bank financial statements and how these statements are prepared. Students learn the calculation and application of key ratios to measure financial performance and earnings power. (1st year, 8 hours, Bob Kemp) Bank Performance – offers a "real world" perspective analysis of bank financial performance as a result of management decisions. Students will analyze and evaluate bank performance through classroom discussions and team workshops. (1st year, 20 hours, Kurt Treu) Credit Risk Management (emphasizes retail risk management) - focuses on the relevance of credit risk from mulitple perspectives and exposes students to best practices in approach. (1st year, 8 hours, Sean Rowles) Enterprise Risk Management & Economic Capital – integrates domestic and international bank risk management principles with the management of economic capital, including the use of capital-based measures like risk-adjusted rate of return on capital (RAROC) and shareholder value (SVA). (1st year, 4 hours, Rolf Engmann) Interest Rate Risk Management – examines the conceptual and practical aspects of managing a bank in an uncertain interest rate environment. (1st year, 8 hours, Paul Leventhal) Program Objectives/Introduction - examines the foundations of what elements combine ot make up a bank and introduces the interplay between them to pave the way for analysis (1st year, 4 hours, Jim Fugitte) Strategic Management/Integrated Case Study - goes beyond financial analysis to look at how an organization projects forward based on the inidcated we have already covered. This also helps students resolve the often-conflicting agendas of regulators, analysts, and shareholders and puts risk teachings in perspective. (1st year, 14 hours, Jim Fugitte) Bank Financial Analysis and Risk Management Home Study Assignments - challenges students to evaluate the performance and the risk management practices of their own bank by using the financial and risk concepts learned in the First Session.
